Topic: SKULDUGGERY (09/01/16)
Young Timmy watched for the first opportunity to escape and when it came he took it. Mama was distracted by a telephone call so he ran through the back door and sneaked through the fence to Billy’s house. He felt a sense of such joy.

“At last!” he said, but there was something uneasy in his heart.
“Mama would worry!”
She was probably looking everywhere for him, but he soon forgot that thought. Above the gleeful sound of Billy’s laughter, he could hear Mama calling his name.

Little Timmy was no different from other little boys and girls who follow their heart’s desires. Humans seem to want to break every chain. ‘Rules are made to be broken’ is a common saying, but when God wrote the ten commandments He meant for them all to be obeyed.

The Old Testament is replete with people who broke free from the 'chains and rules’ of the Law and followed their heart’s desires.
Jeremiah writes that “the heart is desperately wicked.” So much evil starts in our heart’s desires for what is not allowed.

David was unscrupulous when he followed his heart and went after Bathsheba. The result was adultery and murder. He had broken God’s law.

Rebecca followed the wicked whispers of her heart when she dressed Jacob in goat skin so he could deceive his father Isaac. They bore false witness.

Out of hate-filled and envious hearts, Joseph’s brothers tried to kill him but eventually sold him.They too broke the law but ‘God was with him.’

There came a time when “every man did what was right in his own eyes” {Judges 21:25}. No one was in charge. There were no kings, prophets, or judges to rule society.

Centuries later a Man came to earth from Heaven. "No deceit was found in Him.”
{1 Peter 2:22; Isaiah 53:9} Jesus is that Man. He is our Redeemer. He is The Truth and no skulduggery was found in Him or ever will be.

So little Timmy, King David, Rebecca, the ten sons of Isaac, you and I need to have heart transplants.Accepting Jesus as Saviour and allowing the Holy Spirit to work in us is the only hope for mankind in this new covenant age.

I liked this and especially the opening story. It introduces us to the subject of the lesson it teaches.

Before we are a Christian the Holy Spirit can use God's word to work on our minds encouraging us to believe. When we believe what the Bible says about who Jesus is and repent of our sin and are baptized for the forgiveness of our sin we are given the gift of the Holy Spirit who then will work on our heart since he lives in us.

Again,I liked it.

A good opening illustration with a clear message, though it would be a little clearer to develop one biblical example instead of sweeping across several of them. Your heart is to write - so follow your heart and may God bless your ministry and those you reach for him.
