Ashamed was actually the word. Never before had I felt so embarrassed in my life. Naked. Lying there as if it were normal, common, but it wasn't. It was not supposed to be.
Have you ever been there? Exposed. As if your deepest thoughts could be read, even though you knew, you just knew it was not possible? That was me. Over 14 years ago. I cannot say I had no sense of purpose, for I would be lying. On the contrary, I used to think I had the world in my hands. Don't get me wrong, I was realistic, but hopeful. "The world is a canvas", somebody once said. I do agree with that, but it does not mean that everything you do with it is art.
You see, we have this idea that no one can really read our thoughts, that whatever we think is all buried deep down our soul and nobody, ever, will find out. Unless we tell them. Or is it? Don’t we expose who we really are, what we really think in every action, in every word? However hard we try to cover it up, to disguise our thoughts with trained words, there will be a time when we will be exposed.
It's New Year’s eve, but in a different calendar. It's the fall of the world as we've always known it. The trumpets have been blown, the angels have announced and the saints have vanished. Instead of fireworks, there is only fire. Instead of joy, there is ashes. And, how do you feel? Do you feel safe? Are you sure now of your convictions? Do you still believe what university professors have taught you? What you've read in books and search engines?
Not long ago, we were full or ourselves, all powerful, all knowing, sure that our truth would save us or that there was no truth at all. The truth? The truth is that there's always been only one Truth. Only One Way. One Life. He's shown Himself powerful in creation. Almighty in wars. Merciful in death. Loving on the cross.
The Maker of heaven and earth decided to come down and show us how it can be done. Or rather, how we couldn’t do it. How helpless, hopeless we were. We needed a Savior and He provided One. We needed a Way out, and He showed us the way. We needed a scapegoat, and He died for us. And now? It's the eleventh hour. He's at the door. There's no time to look back. There's no way to run. Between the "cross and the sword", they say. It has never been so true.
He offers Redemption.
But there’s also destruction out there.
He offers Grace.
But there's also free will.
So, at the end, the choice is yours:
Christ - death here and eternal life
Deception - life here and eternal death.
And then, there's the Throne. The Almighty One sits in it. You are in front of the King of Kings. All of those secrets, all of those thoughts. The ones you thought were buried, hidden, safe. All of them now play on a dark screen. The dark blue sky. Your whole life. Exposed. And there you lay, naked, on the floor, dirty, ashamed. He reaches for your hand and you're too embarrassed to take it. You smell, but you've just taken a shower. It starts to rain. It's blood. The blood of the Lamb. What do you do? Do you accept the shower of Grace? Or do you hide - under your own self-righteousness?
