Topic: Mother (as in maternal parent) (04/24/08)
Mother’s are God’s Gift to the family.

Mothers are God’s plan and the bed rock of our society. They are God’s gift to the family. The Lord gifts them with children, responsibility, and authority to raise, and train those children in the understanding, and instruction of the Creator God. It is not an easy task since the children of men are humanistic and practical atheists. They may never admit to being atheists, but they live like there is no God who rules over their lives, and believe the teachings of the world. This is true of everyone born into this world (Rom 3:10,23). Therefore, mothers have a far more difficult job than most people realize in training their children, and shielding them from the influence, and teachings of the World.

As a teen I attended High School and assumed that the teacher was the authority, and always right. Teachers are highly trained individuals with a wealth of knowledge that they are to pass on to impressionable young students. Teachers have no where near the authority, or the love of a mother. My biology teacher taught evolution and denied the creator God. I was in a quandary. Did I believe that my Mother, with a sixth grade education was right, and there is a Creator God who created all things, or did I believe my teacher? I asked myself, was the teacher with all his degrees right? No one in the class challenged him so I concluded, the teacher must be right. Little did I know that my mother’s belief in her Savior, and His Word gave her more understanding than all of my teachers (Ps. 119:99).

My mother spent a lot of time teaching me, that believing in evolution was denying God’s Word, and His power. She was so smart. She didn’t confront me with an argument, but instead used the Word of God as her authority, and just asked me a few questions. She asked, “Do you think that God can lie? Do you believe that He left us without an instruction book for life? I said no to both of those questions, then she asked, “don’t you believe the Bible was written by God, and came from His very lips and mouth?” (Psa 119:13,89:34, Matthew 4:4). I was amazed at her knowledge of the Word of God, and how she constantly conveyed it to me. Now, no one can convince me today, that God’s Word is not true, and that we just evolved. The opening verses of the Bible reads, “in the beginning God created the Heavens and the earth”.

You have probably heard it said, “the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world”. Now you can see the influence of a mother. My mother had many wise sayings that I just shrugged off, but today I can see how true they are. Here are the ones that I heard the most. “Dare to be a Daniel, dare to stand alone, dare to have a purpose firm, and dare to make it known.” Then there was, ”Have a backbone Jimmy, don’t be a jelly fish.” She reminded me, “not to trust the world because they take God in one hand and the devil in the other”. She believed that it is only the Lord that is trustworthy, and His Word is true. (Psa. 119:160). She said, “the Lord will carry you through all your trials and tribulations, if you only trust in Him”.

My mother prayed that the Lord would give me a godly wife, and she thanked the Lord when He did. She said to me just before I got married, “if all the boys, (meaning my brothers) find a girl as good as what you have, I will die happy”. I guess that was a prophecy, For that, “girl” was the wife of my youth, and the mother of my six children. Today, five of those six children are in full-time Christian service, scattered around the World, being used of God. She has a saying that is framed and hanging on the wall over her kitchen sink that reads, “I put all my eggs in one basket, and gave the basket to God.” This whole essay on Mothers can be summed up with the one verse that closes the book of Proverbs, “Her children will rise up and call her blessed, for she is a godly woman, who fears the Lord.”. Now those are mothers that are gifts from God to their families.

You can be very thankful for such a wonderful mother. I liked how you sprinkled this with Scripture.
If you quote songs, you have to give reference to the copyright info, before being published.

This portrait of your mother recalled for me some of the great women of faith of old, such as Fanny Crosby and Dwight Moody's mother. Your mother's blessings have certainly produced tenfold.
