TITLE: Erring Earworm | Writing Challenge

Several years ago, there was a popular song about God watching the world from a distance. It had a catchy tune that stuck in your brain like an annoying earworm. Every time I heard the song played on the radio, I tried to cover my ears to redirect my thoughts elsewhere. Perhaps the person who penned the pleasant lyrics to that song served a god who was distant, but the God I serve is right here at my side.

“The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” Psalm 145:18 NIV

My God is not peering down from heaven, watching the action of his silly human creations. He is very much involved in those who believe in Him and have accepted Jesus Christ into their lives.

The God I worship sent His Holy Spirit to live within my being. He guides me in what I should do, and he comforts me in my fear, pain, and discouragement.

"Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?” 1 Corinthians 3:16, NIV

Satan utilizes all areas to deceive people from knowing and following the one true God. Music is a vast playing field for him, using poetic-sounding or catchy lyrics that are false theology. Our God is not watching from far away; He is right here with us. All we have to do is call on His name.

“Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts you double-minded.” James 4:8 NIV

I have always felt the same about that song and found myself praying that the Lord would take it and so many other songs that play in random places like the grocery store, out my mind. The Lord is an ever present help in time of need, indeed.

This is a lovely piece that makes a perfect point in this busy world where many people feel God is far away and uncaring. I wasn't sure if I was familiar with the song so I googled it and now it's stuck in my head ;) . You did a great job of writing on topic while delivering a clear message. Congratulations on your EC. Thank you for the words that you wrote with such conviction. We all need to be reminded that there is a caring, vigilant God up there, when we feel drowning in the depths of despair.
