"Like one who takes away a garment on a cold day,or like vinegar poured on soda, is one who sings songs to a heavy heart." (Proverbs 25:20)
We are counseled to rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. When we don't we are showing a lack of consideration for our fellow man. If someone has a "heavy heart" they are obviously troubled, and need our sympathy and concern, not an insensitive display of "joy". Following Jesus is a journey from "self" to "selflessness", of caring about others instead of just ourselves. As we learn to do this we are drawn to empathize, and join others in the place of their heart. We will truly rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. It is really a matter of a caring heart.
