All virtue is valueless
If the motivation’s wrong;
Deeds that vanity caress
Are a worthless clanging gong.

I might by faith move mountains
Or by prophecy inspire;
Though my speech great truth proclaims—
Is God’s love my heart’s desire?

The love of God is patient,
Never seeking selfish gain—
God’s truth ever its intent—
God’s great glory is its aim.

God’s love so pure and holy
Is epitomised in Christ—
His life lived for God’s glory
And laid down in sacrifice.

Should God’s glory motivate
Every thought and word and deed,
If Christ’s love we imitate
Then our lifestyle states our creed.
