The Tragedy of It All.....

At work one day recently, we were discussing the current worldwide financial situation, and about how it was impacting people all around us, and also impacting lives and homes as well. My mind raced to the stories I had read of the Great Depression, and then to other times throughout history where times were tough, where wars caused starvation and desolation of villages, towns, countries. Then one of the people said “It is just such a tragedy how people are losing their jobs.” I could be silent no longer. I had to speak up and remind everyone that this was not the first time, nor probably the last, that we would hear of financial uncertainty, job losses, etc.

We have an opportunity as a nation, and as individuals, to become more caring toward our fellow man. We can allow this time that is coming to make us better people – not richer, but better. Or we can become frightened, bitter, hopeless people.

Tragedy? Not at all. A true tragedy would be to go through these times not knowing there is a God that loves you, sent His Son to die for you, and wants you to spend eternity with Him. This same God wants to be our provider right here, right now, not just in the “someday, at the end of your life” – right now. All He asks is that instead of worrying about every big and little thing, wringing our hands and mopping our brow over the state of the economy, or of our checkbook – He asks us to Seek Him First. Make Him the Numero Uno, muy importante thing in our life. And, the things we truly need will be “added unto us”. Read the 6th Chapter of Matthew, it’s all there. Read, and learn about His heart.
