JUST A SMILE……A Nuggetz from Felix Obi

Sometime ago, I traveled to the East of the Niger to visit with my
family
folks, and after the long and tortuous journey was exhausted and had to
slump into an unscheduled nap thereafter. Unknown to me, a distant
relative who I scarcely knew had entered the room while I was asleep.
When I was roused back to wakefulness by the noise from people around,
she asked with a glint of surprise on her face,” Do you like smiling?”.
While wondering who she was and what she meant, she then added,” You
just
had this smile on your face when you woke up”. I really was taken
aback
by her comments for I never knew that I had “woken up with a smile!”
But who doesn’t really like the sight of a smile? Yet many horde this
precious gift from God .A smile is a treasured possession that is so
cheap and easy to acquire but not so commonly spotted on the face of
most
folks on the streets. Nevertheless, the worth of an effusive smile
can’t
be truly quantified and its place in human relationships can’t be
neglected by any means. Hence, corporate bodies spend so much resources
on customer relations seminars to teach their staff to learn how to at
least “force a smile “ while attending to clients. That not
withstanding,
a sincere smile can’t be feigned and it’s too natural to be forced or
faked. One can always detect a pure and pleasant smile which exudes
from
the depth of the heart smile should come so easily but we often are
confronted by dour-looking folks who seem to have lost the precious
smile
of yore years of childhood!
What is it that attract babies to us? I really do think it’s their
smiles for aside of their shrieking cries that we all abhor, the other
emotion they so willingly dole out is their smiles. They have this
irresistible smile on their faces that can’t be feigned. Long before
they
learn to chuckle, laugh or frown, they thoughtlessly smile with ease.
Little wonder Jesus Christ so loved them and they loved to be with him
to
the chagrin of his disciples.
Nothing can be as calming and inviting as the smile from a caring and
sincere heart .And with a smile, one can break through a seeming wall of
unfriendliness. A smile can be so comforting that it’s a major factor
in
building the bridge of friendship . How would you feel in a tense
interview environment when an empathic member of the panel gives you a
reassuring smile? For sure, it will drive away any seething anxiety
within your heart and will embolden you beyond measure to face the
challenges of an interview.
It’s a known anatomical fact that we use more muscles of the face to
frown(tense our face) than we do when we smile(relax). A frank smile
actually helps us to relax our facial muscles and lightens up our
countenance. It’s soothing that it obliterates the stress lines on our
faces thus, burnishes our outlook and beauty.
As you walk around today, observe the faces of people you encounter at
your work place, and on the streets. One reality will strike you….there’s
a
dearth of smiles around us!!! But we/you can do something to change
the
status quo today by sparking off a revolution by “infecting “ everyone
around us/you with the “Smile Bug”!
Concluding Quotes:
1. “with a smile ,the cloud of gloom can be shattered into shreds”…….
FELIX OBI
2. “ A sincere and unfeigned smile can disarm a cynical foe of joy and
friendship”….FELIX OBI

Simple Exercise:
Stand before a mirror and try all you can to frown .Take note of the
stress lines on your face. Thereafter, try and smile to yourself and
observe your facial outlook. Now which do you prefer, a smile or a
frown????

Till I come your way again, keep spreading the joy from a smile. Thanks
for all you support.
I still remain your friend,
