I heard you criticizing how we live
And the small amount of money we give
In church at offering time;
When it really shouldn't matter if I only gave a dime.
You seem to always be judging the drug addicts and drunks;
Calling our children hoodlums, thugs, and punks;
Looking down on others because they have an addition
And prophelying as to the cause of others' affliction.
We all have fallen short of the glory,
And we all seem to have a story
To tell of how God has brought us out
And what our deliverance and salvation is all about.
What makes you able to judge another
Or look down on your Christian brother?
You need to evaluate your own life to remember where you came from
And offer an apology to some
Of the very people you've talked about and called names
Because you could very well be in the same
Place they're in, but it's because of God's grace
You've made it this far in the race.
Have you ever thought about where you would be
If God hadn't delivered you from sin and made you free
From the bondage Satan had you in
And a life of addictive sin?
Yes, sin is addictive in the worst way,
And I'm sure you've been there regardless of what you say,
Or of whatever excuse you may use
To explain how you were mistreated and abused
Because of your desires to do wrong
And how and why you stayed so long
In that addictive state
Full of anger, sorrow and hate.
Sin is an addiction that takes control of your life
And brings with it misery and strife.
You may still be saying, "I've never been there",
But if you haven't, you are truly a rare
Person whom I must let everyone meet
To find out what it took for you to defeat
Satan when he tried to tempt you;
Please tell us what must we do
To be sinless as we strive to do right;
While Satan is putting up his best fight
To keep us addicted to his way
And pressuring us to go astray.
You see, we have many addictions that only God can keep us from
Because without Him and grace, we would bring ourselves harm.
There are many of us addicted to lying
And go through each day trying
To be honest in every word we say
As we travel on our Christian way.
There are a number of us who gossip all day long
Causing confusion and division in others' homes.
There are quite a few of us that backbite from time to time
And others who find it difficult to be compassionate and kind.
There are some among us that murder with our tongues
And are quick to pick out others' wrongs.
Some of us have even taken things that we do not own,
Husbands, wives, cars, money, and even someone else's home.
A number of us have no respect for our fathers and mothers
And have no love or consideration for our sisters and brothers.
We have people who can't seem to love their neighbors
And others who accept cars, homes, money as gods, as saviors.
We have some that choose to go to work
On Sunday mornings instead of going to church.
There are quite a few of us who call upon the Lord's name
For no apparent reason; just calling it in vain.
See, we have quite a few problems that we face
As we try to run this Christian race;
So, please tell us what it took for you
To be perfect in everything that you do.
Yes, I see you're able to point fingers and criticize
At how we, as Christians, are trying to live our lives
The best we can by the grace of God
While Satan is doing all he can to make our way hard.
No, you're not perfect, not even near;
You're just so self-righteous that you can't even hear
The spirit when sermons are calling out your faults
Or even when, in Bible Study, it's being taught
That none is perfect but the Father;
So, you need not worry, don't you even bother
About pointing out what you see others do
Because there are four other fingers pointing back at you.
Just because you don't drink, smoke,
Dip, curse, or even use dope
Doesn't make you righteous by far,
But proves exactly what you are,
Which is a hypocrite by thinking you have all your ducks in a row,
But you're sometimes seen stumbling as you go
Along your Christian journey trying to live right,
Trying your hardest to walk in the light.
It's hypocritical to criticize those who are weak,
Because it's more righteous to pray that they seek
Salvation through the blood of Christ
So that they may be able to live right.
Don't be a hypocrite by criticizing those you meet,
But rather be an inspiration in helping them defeat
Whatever addiction Satan is using to taunt their souls,
And pray that they reach the heavenly goal.
