The Jews
took up stones
again to stone
Him.
Jesus answered them,
I have shown you
many good works
from the Father;
for which of
these
do you
stone Me?
[John 10:31-32]

(Author was about 5: maybe 6.
A kid, down the street,
who was in second grade
would always say something
to his friend, when he
saw her.)
"Hey! Look!
Here comes Julie
the JEW!"
------------------
"How OLD was I, Lord?"
(Peer up at dusty ceiling.)
"I can't REMEMBER?"
[PATIENT SILENCE.]
(Irritated glare.)
"How come, everytime
I ask You a question,
Ya never ANSWER me?"
[SILENCE.]
(Nod.)
"What: You think
I REMEMBER?"
"Yes,
My child."
"Well, I'm gettin'
OLD!"
(Grimmace!)
"It was a LONG TIME,
ago!"
"It was yesterday,
My beloved."
"What: in my MIND?"
[GENTLE NOD.]
"You're not turnin'
into a psychiatrist now,
ARE Ya?"
[CHUCKLE!]
"Cuz, those guys charge,
like, 500 bucks an HOUR!"
(Laugh!)
"Forget THAT!"
[WISE LOOK.]
"Who AM I,
little one?"
"Eh......the One Who
put all that nasty stuff,
about the JEWS?"
[ANGRY GLARE.]
In.....
the New TESTAMENT?"
[SILENCE.]
"Am I SHOCKIN' Ya?"
[SORROWFUL GAZE.]
"Nothing shocks Me,
My beloved."
(Philosophical shrug.)
"Yeah; I guess."
(Smile!)
"That covers a big can'a
BEANS, don't* it?"
[NOD.]
(Silence.)
[SILENCE.]
(Look up at dusty ceiling
fan.)
"Hey, LORD?
Have You ever seen
those REAL big can'a
BEANS, at SAMS?"
(Smile!)
"They're, like.......HUGE!"
(Chuckle!)
"They're, like.....WEIRD!"
[GENTLE SMILE.]
[NOD.]
"What of it,
My child."
(Squint.)
"What of what."
[PATIENT SILENCE.]
"You mean, that stuff
we were just
TALKIN' about?"
[GAZE.]
(Shrug.)
"What's to SAY?
Like I said, it was a
long TIME ago."
(Shrug.)
FORGET it."
[TENDER VOICE.]
"Tell Me,
My precious."
"WHAT?
SO?
So, I was thinkin'
of not goin' back to that
BIBLE study, anymore!
So WHAT?"
[NOD.]
"I just hate all that
stuff they say about
the JEWS. It's really
UGLY."
[PATIENT SIGH.]
"I HATE it."
[SILENCE.]
(Long silence.)
"I was just a little
kid."
(Look off, into the air.)
"I got scared."
"What did you do,
child?"
"Huh?"
(Shrug.)
"Oh, nothin.
Nothin': I just
didn't say ANYTHING.
And....I held my head up."
[GENTLE CHUCKLE.]
"So, what d'Ya think
I should DO, LORD?
Ya think I should QUIT?"
[QUIET VOICE.]
"Read My Word,
child."
(Cranky squint.)
"Which PART?
The one with the
JEWS, in it?"
[GENTLE SMILE.]
"Yes,
My beloved.
That One."

Joseph said to them...
as for you,
you meant evil
against me;
but
God
meant it
for good.
