Christmas is over. The guests have gone, or are leaving soon. The gift-giving is over, and we are beginning the yearly ritual of undecorating and returning our homes to their pre-Christmas condition. No more Christmas music in the stores, the outside lights are coming down. But as we put away the trappings of the holiday, let us not put away the message that it brings.

Luke 2:11 “Behold, I bring you tidings of great joy. For unto us, this day, in the city of David, a Savior has been born unto us, a savior who is Christ the Lord.”

It does not say “a cute little baby has been born”, or “a future president, political leader, great orator”. It does not say he will be a Nobel prize winner, great statesman, charismatic leader or rock star. … unto US has been born a SAVIOR, who is Christ the Lord.

Unto us – who? All mankind
A Savior – saving us from what? Ourselves? Catastrophe? Downsizing? Stress? Economic hardship? Loneliness? -- He saves us from sin, and saves us unto Himself. We are His when He is our Lord. He becomes that propitiation, the bridge that makes the path to the very heart of God.

Lastly, re-read: “… A Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Not “a lord”, THE Lord. The one and only.

In Christ’s birth, life, death and resurrection, God did not initiate just another way to heaven, he provide The Way. Yahweh provided The Way home, home to the Father’s heart.
