Healing

[SILENCE.]

(Frown up at shadow on ceiling.)
"And...ALL these CHRISTIANS
have been TELLING
me that You're....
like...... the
HEALER!"

"Yes,
child."

"WELL?"
(Cranky glare.)
"SO?
What're You DOING?"

[SILENCE.]

"When's it gonna
START?"

"What,
My precious."

"Your H..E..A..LING!
What d'You think
I'm TALKIN' ABOUT:
the MOON?"

[GENTLE SMILE.]

"You're not doin'
NOTHIN'!"

[PATIENT GAZE.]
"I never do
nothing,

bright clothes."

[LOOK AT A WHALE
DIPPING INTO A
DARK, COLD WAVE
OF THE NORTHERN
PACIFIC.]

(Silence.)
(Look up at the ceiling fan.)
"So,
what do I DO,
Lord?"

[SILENCE.]
[WATCH SOME
CHRISTMAS SHOPPERS
AT A MALL IN LONDON.]

"What do I DO."

[LOVING GAZE.]
"Listen to Me,
child."

(Listen.)
(Cranky squint up at the ceiling.)
"YEAH?
I'm listening!"
(Cup palm to ear.)
(Sarcastic smirk up at ceiling vent.)
"Can't HEAR NOTHIN'!"

[LONG PAUSE.]
[TENDER VOICE.]
"Listen,
My precious.
Just
listen."
