As I look back at the woman I once was in my life
Making life difficult and miserable for some man's wife
By taking time and money away from her home,
And being the source of her spending nights alone
Awaiting the arrival of her husband, lover and friend
Wondering when the agony will end
With him staying away all night without even a call,
Acting in a manner that showed he didn't care at all
About the vow he made to love her until death did them part,
And by viciously betraying her trust and breaking her heart.
I now know how she felt all of those nights
Watching out the windows for passing headlights
Hoping and praying that one would be him arriving home,
But always found herself confused and alone
Wondering how could things go so terribly wrong,
And how could such straight-faced lies roll from his tongue
About where he'd been and who he'd been with
While at home in misery waiting and worrying she'd sit
Praying that he'd make it home safely and without harm,
And with hugs and kisses that would feel as warm
As the times when they were so close
And when she knew, without a doubt, he loved her most.
I have felt the pain I caused her to feel so deep,
And I've seen the tears that fell as she weeped
Because of the feeling of losing the one she truly loved,
And I have had many of the same thoughts of
The woman that was taking the love and time I was due
For being a wife so faithful and true.
I've wondered how she looked and what intrigued him so
That at any given moment, he'd just arise and go
Running to be with her and supply whatever she needs
And follow her to wherever she leads.
Now, as I think about how it made her feel,
I realize that it's all so true and real
That in whatever you do and wherever you go,
You will always reap what you so.
