If we follow the lives of people in scripture, they did not shy away from issues of the day. They were not worried about the politics or the polls or the status quota. They understood the necessity of challenging them. Weighing them by the laws of God. Many of them had witnessed God's wrath first hand and knew what would happen if they disobeyed God. They also did not shy away from evil when it invaded their territory in life and threatened their standing with God. Additionally, they understood when it was time to stand for morality and godly values. God came before anything else.

A story we have heard since childhood is the three Hebrew children who refused to bow to the golden idol. They understood that bowing to the idol wasn't just a political thing however, a moral and godly issue that must be confronted. Even at the threat of a fiery furnace, they did not cower away from what was before them. An opportunity to stand up for God. They stood up to an evil dictator who ended up declaring God as the one who is to be praised.

We also have the example of Jesus who spent much of his ministry making people nervous. Jesus did not shy away from controversy. He actually stirred it up. Jesus knew about the elders who threw fits over his teachings. Jesus challenged the traditions surrounding the Sabbath. Jesus silenced the nay-sayers. Jesus did not treat such things as merely political and off limits. He jumped right in the middle of it.

Here we are in the midst of an election season, with issues such as same sex marriage, abortion,
and hardcore liberalism that inches closer in to our territory, threatening our standing with God.
These things are not merely political however, moral and spiritual things. Scripture is very clear about how God views these things. How precious life is and where people who engage in immoral lifestyles will spend eternity. Hint: It isn't heaven.

It isn't something a left handed right winger came up with. God is the one who makes this clear.
If Jesus lived in our day, he would not be on anyone's guest speaker list. Talk about a shake up.

As Christians, we are not here to shy away from evil when it invades our space in life. We are here to jump in the middle of it. To put any issue off as merely political is an insult to the faith we lay claim to. As we decide who to vote for, we need to remember who we serve and what we ought to be standing for. Failed policies, bad choices, and all that junk doesn't hold a candle to a nation that supports immorality and the taking of innocent, unborn life.

Will you bow or face the furnace?
