Christian Living
There is an interesting phenomenon that occurs when a group of perfect strangers is threatened by serious injury or death such as by natural disasters: earthquake, tornado, or a plane with a sputtering engine--or even when they are stuck in an elevator for a long time. Their demeanor changes. Instead of ignoring each other's presence, they suddenly realize they have a common interest. They become sociable, actually notice and respond to each other in a friendly, helpful manner. When we are standing in line in a crowded grocery store trying to ignore each other, and a tornado rips half the roof off the building, suddenly we realize we share a great deal with the other folks in line and reach out to them. Somehow, under these circumstances, political party affiliation and bank accounts lose their importance. Wonder why that is? Why does it take the threat of death to make us realize we are our brother's keeper? That we are all in this together? Could it be that we don't want to be caught dying the way we live?
It's something to think about.

Very well put, very true, and very unfortunate. Great observation!
