Jesus Christ -- The Lord's Mercy and Compassion

This morning I received an e-mail from Compassion International regarding the global food crisis. There is a great need for monetary support -- especially for families with children who don't make enough money to support them. I find myself wondering why I was born into a family where the Lord was worshiped, and where having enough food or money really weren't issues for me -- at least, not at this time.

The apostle Paul reminds me in Romans 9:15 (NIV), ‘For he [the LORD] says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”’ He has granted me mercy and compassion in many ways (not just food or money). I live by faith, not sight. Because I belong to Him, I want to give other people the same mercy and compassion that He has given me. Jesus Christ the Lord said in Matthew 10:42 (NIV), ‘And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward."’

More importantly than people having enough food or money, I want everyone to know the mercy and compassion that was given to us by the LORD through the coming of His Son Jesus Christ. Jesus said in John 3:16-18, ‘"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.’ Only through a relationship with Jesus Christ will anyone ever attain what they truly need.
