In this world, there are all kinds of ways to describe the feelings and ideas surrounding the word “home”. The saying “Home sweet home”, part of a verse from the US national anthem “O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave”, or the song “I'll Be Home for Christmas.” These examples attempt to exemplify “home” as something physical, familiar, and earthly. However, home to a believer/Christian is with the Lord.

The home of the Lord God Almighty is Heaven, but Heaven will not be complete until those who belong to the Lord Jesus Christ are there with Him. In John 14:2-4 (NIV), Jesus said to his disciples ‘“In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going."’ Jesus Christ is the Way (John 14:6 [NIV]).

In 2 Corinthians 5:1-4 (NIV), the apostle Paul describes the wonder of Heaven in some rather unusual and unfathomable comparisons. “Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.” I am excited at the thought of experiencing the real Heaven not some pale, shallow, imitation, and earthly version of it.

Understanding what the splendor Heaven will be or look like is impossible. And isn't nearly as important as being at home with the Lord. That requires obedience to Him -- the Way. In John 14:23 (NIV), Jesus said, ‘"If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.’
