When a 50-something couple found themselves called to the mission field, it was a classic clash of the titans: God of the Universe meets the value system of the Baby Boomers. He's thinking, "Lets get this bunch of folks out on the mission field where I want them". They're thinking normal Baby Boomer thoughts, like what about the IRA? The 401k, and getting geared down for retirement in a few years?

He made it clear to them separately what HE wanted them to do, and they had to decide just WHO really was #1 in their lives, and how should they respond to a call to do something they really didn't want to do. Guess who won that one?

Add to this the thought of raising support to answer the call to go in a recession economy. It's the kind of stuff to put you on your face in prayer and keep it there until things are clearer. Thoughts arise like "who's in charge here?" and who's responsible for maintenance after all?

Old Testament battles with weapons like jawbones, brass sections, and vastly outnumbered armies clanging noisemakers on the offensive go 21st Century real quick, because it's precisely the same type of battle, calling for the same level of faith. It's even the same question- just WHO is Lord? Both types of warriors get the exact same answer- their God.

What's YOUR battle? Who's YOUR GOD? Figure out those two, and the situation becomes clearer what to do about it.
