Wineskin

Lord help me throw off the old
Items that have grown dead and cold
Make room in me for the new coming
Prepare my heart for a new beginning

The old skin is brittle and dry
A new skin is my heart’s cry
I am a new creation in You
Ready my heart to receive the new

New wineskin is needed for new wine
Prepare and renew this heart of mine
Circumcise the old sin scarred flesh
Through Your Holy Spirit I am refreshed

Break the religious mold that I have built
Cast off all the shame and the guilt
Ready me for this new arrival
Start in me Your Spirit’s revival

Brothers and Sisters,

It is funny how you can read and study the Word and still find something new or see it in a different perspective. I understand the parable of that you cannot put new wine in old wineskins for they will burst. I have listened to sermons and studies on the very subject, but I missed the obvious.

As I was in prayer last night I found myself praying over our church as we still search for our new pastor. I found that I was praying that we shake off the old so that we can receive the new. At first I thought it was cruel thing to say. I know this church was blessed with Pastor Larry for a very long time and there are many fond memories of him and what he had done in the name of the Lord. But I kept praying about casting of the old and make room for the new. The parable of the wineskin kept coming to mind. I prayed that the Lord shatters the old standards and routines to make hearts ready for the new (ie revival). The Lord ministered to me that it is not out of disrespect for Pastor Larry or his church, but my spirit was praying for what was needed for our church to go in the direction the Lord wants us to go. It was also a revelation about me. How I need to shake off some of the dust that has settled on me, to cast off old “religion” that has grown in me over the years of service. So I continue to pray for the removal of old and the installation of the new.

In Christ,
Christian

I, too, attend a church in the process of finding its new leader, called of God, to minister, guide and bless. It has been so refreshing over this past year to have visiting pastors at the pulpit each week to see their faith presented from an honest open heart - free of the many limitations that come with the salary and title. The Holy Spirit has been free to move and oh what a blessing it has been. Your Pastor Larry served well and he had his place in HiStory - he now stands in the Presence of God healed and glorified! But the story is not over and there are new and exciting times ahead. Praying with you, Brother for an amazing spiritual revival that rivals all those past as we usher in "His Kingdom Come"! Amen. Blessings, Jody
