In One Accord

Together they gathered in one accord
Waiting and praying as directed by the Lord
Gathered together with one mind and one heart
Awaiting the Baptism of the Holy Spirit to start

A noise of wind rushing into the place
This tremendous sound filled the space
As they prayed together in one accord
Into the upper room the Holy Spirit poured

From heaven cloven tongues of fire spread
Divided, these flames settled upon each head
The Holy Spirit came upon one and all
In foreign tongues they began to call

Those of the crowed gathered, each had heard
In their own language each hearing the Word
Some stood amazed and others in doubt
They are just drunk some began to shout

Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, stood up bold
Listen! We are not drunk, but it is as foretold
The prophet Joel spoke of these days
Listen! This is what the prophesy says

God will pour out His Spirit on thee
Your sons and daughters shall prophesy
Young men will have visions and the old dreams
Many signs and wonders will come to be seen

Those convinced that he spoke the truth
They asked Peter, What shall we do?
Repent! Those whom the enemy and sin enslave
Believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved!

Brothers and Sisters,

This was a long time coming. The title “In One Accord” came to me a few weeks ago. I began to write out a poem about the Pentecost, but I lost that notebook. I prayed that the Lord would again reveal the almost complete poem again. I wrote down some of what I remembered from the predecessor, but it was nowhere near complete. So I carried around the paper for weeks hoping for that moment when a poem sparks to life. Here is the complete poem, miles away from the one I started.

The original poem I planned to focus on the importance of being of one heart and mind, praying in one accord. This still illustrates the importance of being in one accord, but also reveals more of the Pentecost.
