In the book of Colossians 2:14 Paul wrote under the guidance of the Holy Spirit,these words "Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us,which was contrary to us,and took it out of the way,nailing it to his cross."
The cross in Roman times and at the time of Jesus was known as a tool of torture.So much so that Romans did not kill their own on it,evening though it originated through their culture.
When Christ Jesus came into this world,He came for the sole purpose of giving His life a ransom for you and for me.The message of the cross is life saving to all who listen and trust in the one who gave His life on it.
I have often heard it said that when Jesus was in Gethsemane and He prayed,"Father,if it be thy will let this cup pass from me,nevertheless not my will but your will be done...."That He was almost pleading with the Father to try and get out of going to the cross because of His humanity.That alone is blasphemy.Jesus knew full well before God even created this world that He would have to come and die on Calvary's cross in order to save us from our sins,because without Him we would ALL perish.We would all have to spend eternity in hell,if it was not for the sinless sacrifice of Jesus life.
In Gethsemane Jesus when He prayed,"..Let this cup pass from me.."and then added not my will but yours be done,He was asking the Father if there was any other way for this to occur then to be separated.He and the Father had always been one.He knew that there was no other way,but even though He was fully man but yet fully God,and sinless,He had all the range of emotions that we each have in life.He knew that it had to occur but that part of Him that was fully human was coming out.He was in no way trying to get out of going to the cross,because "..For the joy that was set before Him,He endured the cross.."The joy,my dear friend was you and me.He gave His life and all our sin and shame was placed on Him,that was why the Father turned His face away when His precious Son was hanging on the cross.I can't begin to comprehend the heartache that was in the heart of God,that is why Jesus said,"..My God,My God why have you forsaken me..."God in His love,gave up everything so that He might gain our love.What a loving God we have the privilege of serving.
When we accept Jesus Christ by placing our faith and trust in Him,God the Father places to our account "Paid in Full" and cleanses us from all sin and applies Christ righteousness to our lives,when God looks upon you and me,He sees His Son.He sees what His Son died for.I am eternally grateful for the Cross of Calvary.
