Handicaps

Misguided point of views,
Tunnel vision that sees nothing.
Nothing beyond people's faults,
Nothing beyond their appearance,
Their skin color.
The way they dress.
How quick we are to magnify these.
One thing I have found about handicaps:
Behind them is a person.
Capable of contributing to society,
Sometimes even gifted in unique ways.
Able to play instruments,
Paint masterpieces for us to see.
Perhaps this is God's justice for their life.
Of being different,
Of not fitting in,
Of being rejected by society,
It is truly humbling.
Realizing no one is perfect.
That each of us has things that set us apart.
As humans or unique in our own ways.
It is important to look past the cants in others.
To the can do's that makes each great.
Recognizing their abilities to contribute,
If all we see, are their inabilities,
We lock them in their jails of handicaps.
