[SMILE.]

[GENTLE VOICE.]
"Does it matter,
My child?"

I think it's really STUPID!"

"Why."

"Aw!
Come ON, Lord!
You do whatever Ya
FEEL like! EVERYBODY
knows THAT!
(Pound puny fists
in the air.)
You dole out
whatever Ya WANT!"

[PATIENT SILENCE.]

"Gimme a BREAK!"

"Calm down, child."

"UH uh!
(Squirm around in chair,
to face the air vent.)
In FACT, I think
it's just the OPPOSITE,
if Ya wanna know the
TRUTH!"

"Why, little one?"

"CUZ,
THAT'S why!"

"Why.
[PAUSE.]
Tell Me."

(Pout.)
"CUZ!"

[DRAW NEAR.]
"Tell Me,
little one."

(Whisper.)
"Cuz........cuz,
(Close eyes, resting
head on big, worn out
Bible. Whisper.)
Because......"

"Yes, child?
[WHISPER.]
Tell Me."

"If we only had just stuff
that we could handle....."

"Yes, My beloved?"

"Then....."

"Yes?"

(Whisper.
Cover head with
both arms.)
".....why would we need..."

[GENTLE BREATH.]
"...Yes..?"

(Wipe tear away from cheek.)
"........to come to You?"

[NOD, catching the
tear in His Hand.]
