Faith

nor reap
nor gather into barns;

It's not TRUE!"

[PATIENT NOD.]
"Tell Me, child."

"Well.....maybe, You
feed some of the birds.
But, not EVERYBODY!"

[PATIENT SILENCE.]

"What about that KITTY
I saw in the PARKING lot,
tonight? HUH?
What about HIM?"

[NOD.]

"WELL?
You certainly weren't
feeding HIM!"

"Read My Word,
beloved."

(Pout.)
(Frown.)
"What: Ya mean this one:

For My thoughts
are not
your thoughts,
Neither
are your ways
My ways,
Says the Lord.
[Isaiah 55:8]?"

[NOD.]

"SO?
You're ALWAYS
tellin' me to read
THAT PART!
What's this gotta
do with a little,
sickly, KITTY?
HUH?"

"Who AM I, child?"

(Shrug shoulders.)
"I dunno.
(Frown.)
All I know is, that
kitty's part of Your
Creation, and
You're not taking
CARE of IT!"

[SILENCE.]

"They say that nature's
cruel, Lord. But.....
aren't they just
talking about YOU?"

"Who's they, child."

"YOU know, Lord:
HUMAN people!"

[CHUCKLE.]
"Ah, yes."

"Ya know, Lord,
it just seems like
in Your Book, all
You ever talk about
are the KINGS!
And, the NATIONS!
What about us LITTLE
PEOPLE?
And, the ANIMALS?"

[SILENCE.]

"And, You're always
talkin' about the
MIDDLE EAST!
What about
the AMERICAS?"

"What about them,
My precious."

"Well, WE'RE here,
TOO!"

[GENTLE VOICE.]
"Do you think
I have forgotten you,
My beloved?"

(Long silence.)
"Yeah.
I guess.
Sometimes, I
don't know whether to
believe in You or not.
(Look up at air conditioner vent.)
You're like: way UP THERE!"

[GENTLE WHISPER.]
"No, My child.
I'm right behind you."

Consider
the lilies
of the field,
how they grow,
they neither
toil
nor spin;
yet I tell you,
even Solomon
in all his glory
was not arrayed
like one of these.
