WHEN I WAS A LITTLE LAD

When I was a little lad
What Christmas meant to me
Was all the gifts wrapped and placed
Under the Christmas tree

It was hard to keep awake
With the excitement in the air
Trying to stay up till morning broke
To see just what was there

The lights were truly dazzling
The angels in their place
Bells and glittering streamers
An emotion to embrace

A happy joyous season
With family and with friends
Time filled with such a wonderment
You wish it would never end

Breaking off the ribbons
Wrapping paper torn
Gifts revealed to waiting eyes
On blessed Christmas morn

Each consenting smile
As children yelled with glee
Look what Santa brought me mom
Look kids, look daddy

It takes me back to yester year
I remember it so well
Christmas time as a little child
Boy those days were swell.
