Things

We get so wrapped up
In so many things
We sometimes forget
What God wants to bring

The cares of this world
The lust of other things entering in
Just choke God’s Word
And to Him they are but sin

The things are but icing
On the real cake
For without joy and peace inside
The sweetness they take

We can put the icing on anything
And make things look so bright
But what it covers up
Is just darkness and strife

We can gain the whole world
But lose our own soul
If we are so involved
In things, which don’t make us, to grow

A lesson that I have learned
Is that things are nice
But without Jesus inside
They are but tools of the night

Jesus said that it is easier
For a camel to go through a needle’s eye
Than for a rich man to enter into Heaven
For on his riches, he does rely

Things cannot save you
So on those you cannot rely
They all can vanish
In a twinkling of the eye

The only thing that will stand
Is the peace and joy inside
For if all things were gone
Would you live, or would you die?

True life is not based
In the things that we possess
Life only comes through a relationship with Jesus Christ
Everything else is but dung, I gladly confess.
