The Spirit Gives Life

2Co 3:6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the New Testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

Ever since we were born, most of us have been taught some wrong things. We have been told that money, cars, houses, marriages, kids, airplanes, vacations, fame, and many other things will give to us life. Has anyone figured out that this is a lie from the pit? No amount of money or possessions, fame or fortunate will or can give that peace and completeness inside that only Jesus can give.

Remember when Jesus was tempted of the devil for forty days and nights? The devil tried to persuade him that the world and its goods would be his, with a catch of course. He would have to bow down and serve him. How many people are still pursuing gaining the whole world as their source of happiness? I wrote a poem once and had a response from someone from another country. He said that there is the gospel and then there is the American gospel. These were quite different from the other. Not only does the world preach that prosperity will make you happy, but unfortunately so does much of the church. I’m sorry, but we have bought a lie. These things are nice, but they are not life in themselves. Consider this. When we have all that we need, who is getting the glory? God said that he would supply all of our needs. If we keep supplying them, then what need is there for God to supply? We miss out on seeing the hand of God work in our behalf. This I have found is one of the greatest joys. To see God provide and then our knowing that it was only he, is a glorious experience. It does much for our faith and trust. We get to see that God is truly faithful to his word. He does what he says that he will do.


Scripture says: in KJV

Lu 12:15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for
a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things, which he possesseth.

Mt 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

The real problem is, as we have believed the lie that we spend our time focussing on “things”, instead of drawing near to the Lord through the Holy Spirit. The thing focus is the satisfying of the flesh, which by the way cannot please God. The focus on the spirit will produce fruit that comes from no place else. Read Galatians 5:22-23. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” This seems to me something that is far greater than anything the world or devil can offer. How many people have we heard of that had it all, yet committed suicide, as they were unfulfilled and miserable?

I want to encourage you that if you are truly looking to find real life, then start looking to Jesus through the Holy Spirit. Spend time doing the things that draw you closer to Him.

Col 2:10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

Our completeness comes only in Jesus Christ. Everything else is a substitute and will leave us unfulfilled and empty.
