Waiting, whispering, wanting much,
It is death I deserve;
Needing to be in mercy's clutch;
Part of the eternal preserve;

Here I hang, close to death;
I can barely breathe a word;
Your name I speak, my last breath,
Trusting that You've heard;

With fading eye this weakened human,
Looks to the Man beside him;
"Remember me, Lord, in Your kingdom."
He then spoke great words of welcome;

"Assuredly, I say to you,
You'll be with me in Paradise."
He seemed to speak as if He knew,
His word seemed to suffice.

Hold me close, by and by;
I've done nothing for Your fame,
Nothing to catch Your holy eye
Or glorify Your name;

Hold me within Your infinite heart,
And defend; my life’s before Your eyes;
Love me, and let grace impart;
Save me, by Your sacrifice!

Find him in the court of heaven,
Without a boastful word;
Blood-washed by Him, times seven;
His yearning heart was heard.


His mercy endures forever!


Author's Note: About the only Christian mentioned in the Bible to be saved, yet never was baptized, attended a fellowship, served the Lord, or formally witnessed to a non-believer.
