TO WALK THROUGH OUR PAIN
(A Poem for 9/11)

Lord, give us the strength to walk through our pain,
Please give us the wisdom to use it for gain.
Who could have known what would happen that day,
As thousands of people just went on their way?
Our mothers, grandmothers, our fathers, grandfathers,
Our uncles, our aunts, our sisters, our brothers.
And even our children, the young and the old,
Would not have believed it had they even been told.
That in only a matter of hours that morn,
Their lives would be over, and nations would mourn.
The horror and pain that we felt on that day,
A full two years later, has not gone away.
The images we saw, they will never leave,
For loved ones lost, we’ll continue to grieve.
Lord, You are here, You’ve reached out your hand,
To comfort every child, every woman, every man.
We may never be able to fully comprehend,
The hatred in the hearts of these evil men.
Lord, give us the strength to walk through our pain,
Please give us the wisdom to use it for gain.
