LET MY ZEAL BE TEMPERED

Let my zeal be tempered Lord, in all that I do,
To better my service to others and You.
I know zeal is good, but it can be misplaced.
Too often it’s used to “get in your face.”
The sword was once a lone piece of steel,
Nothing really to look at, and not much to feel.
In the mind of the smithy, there’s already a plan.
This steel has a purpose as it lay in his hand.
It’s heated, then hammered, then heated again,
He knows that his efforts will not be in vain.
The heat and the hammer may seem hard to take,
But are valuable tools for what God wants to make.
The zeal that I have could be hurtful and cruel,
But under God’s forging can be a great tool.
Let my zeal be tempered with patience and love,
And with the fruits of the Spirit you send from above.
