Faith

When the Pharaoh drew near,
the people of Israel
lifted up their eyes,
and behold,
the Egyptians were marching
after them;
and they were in great fear.

"Yes, My child?"

"How come 'Ya didn't
help me out today...
HUH?"

[SILENCE]

"Yeah. I'm not surprised
Y'ur not saying ANYTHING!
I wouldn't, EITHER!"

"You're angry with Me, child."

"Eh.....it's more like
DISAPPOINTED,
Lord! But.....what
ELSE is NEW?"

[SILENCE]

"That was lot's 'a
FUN today, Lord!
That was GREAT!
THANKS!"

[PATIENT SILENCE.]

"So......eh,
why should I
BELIEVE in You,
Lord.....HUH?"

"I am your Lord, child."

(pout)
(more pouting)
(look up at the air conditioner vent)
"YEAH?
SO?"

"My Child,
Who AM I?"

"The One Who's
closed off 5 exits
of I10, so it took
me an hour and half
to get to WORK,
TODAY?"

[PATIENT SILENCE]

"What REALLY makes me,
eh.....disappointed, is
that I prayed to You,
SPECIFICALLY,
ABOUT it!"

"Yes. I know, child."

"Yeah, WELL...?"

"Did you get to work
today,
My child?"

"Yeah....but, I
almost late - by
3 minutes. Plus,
I didn't get to
stop for my Sunday
donut and COFFEE."
(pout)

[PATIENT NOD.]
"Read My Word,
beloved."

(pout)
"How COME?
What's THAT
gonna' DO?"

[MORE PATIENT SILENCE.]

(more pouting)
"But, LORD!
There's NOTHIN' in There,
about what to do,
when all your EXITS
ARE CUT OFF!"

"Look, child."

"Yeah. Okay:

.....the Egyptians
were marching after them......
And the people of Israel
cried out to the Lord;
and they said to Moses,
Is it because there are
no graves in Egypt
that you have taken us
away to die
in the wilderness?
[Exodus 14:10-11]

Hm.....yeah, I guess.
But.....Lord,
it's not the same
thing.
(thoughtful silence)
For one thing, they
weren't on I10 East
in San Antonio.
Plus, they weren't
payin' for gas,
up the wazuu.
PLUS, You were
givin' them all those
great SANDALS!"

[GENTLE LAUGH.]
"Have your sandals
worn out, My beloved?"

"Eh.....they're
GETTIN' there, Lord!
They're sort'a
gettin' worn to
a FRAZEL!"

[SMILE.]
"Who is holding
them up, My child?"

(pout)
"Hm.....I dunn'o.
I guess....
You, Lord."

[NOD.]
"Trust Me, child."

(weary silence)

"Trust Me."

And Moses said to the people,
Fear not,
stand firm,
and see the salvation
of the Lord,
which He will work for you
today....
The Lord will fight
for you,
and you only
have to be still.
[Exodus 14:13-14]
