When that real religious guy asked Jesus,
To describe a neighbor on that day,
He shared with him a short story.
That is well-known yet today.
It's the story of the Good Samaritan,
But some would say, "That can't be so,
There's no way anyone can expect,
That far for one person to go."
So, Jesus, did you really mean that,
When you said, "This is what neighbors do?"
I can't beleive that God would say,
"This is what I expect from you."
I go to church on every Sunday,
I even serve on the board.
Every now and then at the office,
I even talk about the Lord.
I give an offering every week,
In the choir loft I sing.
For every all-church potluck,
At least three things I bring.
I voted to replace the organ,
With a new digital keyboard.
I never fall asleep in church,
Which proves I never do get bored.
So the story of the good neighbor,
It does not apply to me.
Most of the time when folks cry out
That they have a special need,
I believe that they are doing it,
Out of their own selfish greed.
I don't think he really meant it,
That to all a neighbor I must be?
But just in case,I give a dollar,
To a homeless man I see.
