Marriage

I sat by the window in the car last night,
day was gone, it was just getting dark,
and suddenly something caught my eye.
tiny lights, like heavenly sparks.

I began to watch closely so I could see,
what it was that I had seen out there,
all around little lanterns glowed off and on,
beacons of God's loving care.

It took me back to when I was a child
and caught these lightning-bugs to keep
I had the idea that they could stay and be mine,
light my room while I was asleep

We let them go, they weren't meant to be caught,
they needed to go and fly free,
so that I could sit in summer's velvet dark night
and watch God's light show just for me.

It reminded me too of the love we share,
the gentle glow saying 'I am still here;
and peace and comfort then fill my heart,
for I know that you're always near.

I love that all around me I see
reminders in everything I say and do,
that God is the Giver of all good gifts,
and the best one He gave me is you!
