Faith

You shall have no other gods
before Me........
you shall not bow down to them
or serve them;
for I the Lord your God
am a jealous God.........

[SILENCE.]

"LORD! LORD!"

"To Whom are you speaking, child."

"What? Oh, well; aren't I
speaking to You, Lord?"

[NOD.]
"And, Who am I?"

"Uh, well; You know."

"No, My child."

"Oh, LORD! Why do You always
speak to me in these riddles?
You know I'm not that smart!"

[SILENCE.]

"I'm sorry; I don't mean to
be sassy.
(Silence.)
Eh, You're the One Who
gave me flat feet?
(Silence.)
Not that I'm kvetching, Lord.
You know I'm past all that."

"Yes, child. I know."
[SMILE.]

"Well, anyway......You know
I've been reading Ezekiel
and some of those other guys."

[NOD.]

"Well, I know that You're
a really jealous God;
I learned all that in
synagogue."

"Yes, child."

"Well, You know; I've
been thinking.......
what about the rest of us?"

"And what is that, little one."

"Well, You know, Lord;
we get jealous, too."

"Child, child....."

"No, listen, Lord!
Wait a minute!
Just listen!"

"I am listening, child."

"Well, what about ME?
I get jealous, a lot, of
You!
(Silence.)
I mean, there's, like,
zillions of people praying
all the time......."

[PATIENT SILENCE.]

"Well? How about that?
Maybe, You're paying more
attention to the guy down the
street than You are to me!
Huh? What about THAT?
Maybe, I get jealous, too!"

"Zillions, My precious?"

"Well, yeah, Lord.
Because, that might include
people on other planets,
and stuff."

"Ah, yes.
I see."

"Well? I mean, maybe,
just at this very moment,
You're paying attention
to somebody else's
kvetching!
Maybe, You'd rather
be listening to that
other guy!"

"Read My Word, child."

"You mean this part, again?
Yeah, alright:

For My thoughts
are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways
My ways......
[Isaiah 55:8]

Yeah, okay. I guess.
But, I still get jealous, Lord."

"Yes. I know, My child."

"I mean, there's so many
people out there, who can
sing, and stuff.
They can sing, and sound
pretty about it.
And, they even write
songs about You."

"Look at Me, child."

(Silence.)

"I made You with
My own Hand.
And, I chose you."

"I'm not that much, Lord.
I mean, let's face it.....
and, I'm not just talking
about the flat feet, either."

"Read My Word, child.
I am speaking to you!"

"Okay, okay! It's
alright! I didn't
really mean that;
so what, if I can't
sing? Who cares?"

"You can still sing
to Me, child."

"Yeah, I know, Lord.
And, I'm sorry I said
I was jealous of the
other people. Even
thinking about it
makes my head spin."

[NOD.]

"Good night, Lord.
I love You."

"Good night, child."
