If I speak, my pain is not assuaged,
and if I forebear, how much of it
leaves me?
Surely now God has worn me out...
[Job 16:6-7]
************************************
"Lord?"

"Yes, child."

"That novacaine wore off hours ago.
It's killing me!"

"It won't kill you, child."

"Great; is that all You can say,
right now? WONDERFUL!"

"Do Whom are you speaking, child?"

"The One Who made the behemoth?"

[NOD.]

"Lord, what's a behemoth, anyway?
Here it is in Job:

Behold, Behemoth,
which I made as I made you;
he eats grass like an ox.....
For the mountains yield food for him
where all the wild beasts play.
[Job 40:15-20]

What was it, Lord: a buffalo,
or something? Some sort of
dinosaur buffalo?"

"Something, child."

"You can be very cryptic, Lord.
It seems like You're always talking
in riddles. Why can't You speak
plainly to us?"

"Go to bed, child.
It is time to rest."

"Well, that's pretty plain,
I guess. I'm sorry I was cranky,
Lord. My jaw hurts."

[NOD.]

I don't want to sleep, Lord.
I'm afraid the dreams will come
back."

"I am with you, child."

"Even in those terrible dreams?"

[NOD.]

"I'll try to remember that, Lord,
in these times of great pain and
sorrow."

"I am with you, always, child."

"Even when the novacaine wears off, Lord?"

[NOD.]

"Okay, Lord.
(Silence.)
Lord? Will You show me,
someday, what a behemoth is?"

"Go to sleep, child."

"Good night, Lord.
I love you.
(Silence.)
And, Lord?"

"Yes, little one?"

"Please comfort those parents,
in America, this week, who
are in mourning for their children."

"Have faith, My beloved.
I am there."
****************************************
God Himself with be with them,
He will wipe away every tear
from their eyes, and
death shall be no more,
neither shall there be mourning
nor crying nor pain any more,
for the former things have
passed away.
[Revelation 21:4]

In the world you have tribulation;
but be of good cheer,
I have overcome the world.
[John 16:33]
