Not everyone who says to Me,
Lord, Lord,
shall enter the kingdom of Heaven,
but he who does the will of
My Father in Heaven.

"Father?"

"'Father', child?"

"Oh, well, I got upset when
I just read another FaithWriters'
article, Father. It was about this
particular Scripture."

"I see."

"So, You know, I thought maybe I
should start calling You, Father....
eh, Father."

"Call Me what is in your heart, child."

"Yeah, okay."

(Silence.)

[SILENCE.]

"So, Lord? It sounds really tough
to get into Heaven. I don't understand;
is it sort of like getting into
med school?"

[SMILE.]

"Actually, I heard that it's harder to
get into veterinary school - there just
aren't as much of them, You know."

[NOD.]

"So? Is that what it's like? We
sort of all have to pass the SAT's
of Heaven, or something?"

"That depends, child."

"Oy. I never did that well on those
tests, Lord. I always wished You
had made me smarter."

"I know."

"So, eh, what are we supposed to do,
now, to get into Your kingdom, Lord?"

"Follow My will, child."

"Yeah, but, You know, Lord, that's just
the catch."

"What, My precious."

"Your will, Lord. We never know what it is
unless You sort of tell us, directly."

[SILENCE.]

"That's just it, Lord! You don't!
You don't, Lord!"

"Don't yell at Me, child."

"Okay, okay. I'm sorry;
I was talking on the phone to my
tax accountant, and You know how that
always gets me cranky, Lord."

"She is helping you, child."

"I still get cranky. 'Doesn't matter, Lord."

"Be patient, child."

"I'll try, Lord. Anyway, What Jesus says
here sounds kind of harsh, don't You think?"

"No."

"Well, I need to do some kvetching, here,
Lord."

"Go on, precious."

"You really need to speak to us more directly,
about Your will, and all. It's just not fair;
half the time, we all just bumble along -
trying to figure out our place in Your plans."

[NOD.]

"So, how are we supposed to get into
Heaven, if we don't have any idea what we're
doing? I think You should, at least, give
out some sort of personal agenda for each of
us, Lord."

[SILENCE.]

"That was just a suggestion, Lord.
Eh, I mean, Father."

"I have given you My agenda, child."

"Well, where is it, Father? I certainly
never got one. Though, I have to admit,
I don't always check my mail that regularly.
Most of it is coupon pages for pizza, and
You know I can't eat that stuff, anymore."

"But, you do, child."

"Well, yeah. It's hard to give up pizza,
Lord: indigestion, and all. So, where
IS Your will for me, Lord? WHERE IS IT?
Did You forget to send it to me, or what?"

"Read My Word, child.
It is all there."

"Okay, Lord. Oh, and Father?
Thanks for sending my friends a
beautiful baby."

"You're welcome, chld."

and does them,
will be like a wise man
who built his house upon the rock.
And, the rains fell, and the floods came,
and the winds blew and beat upon that house,
but, it did not fall,
because it had been founded on the rock.
