"This part - about us having to be perfect."

"Ah, I see."

[SMILE.]

"Cuz', eh, it's just not! That's why!"

"You have to say more, precious."

"Oy. Don't I always?"

[PATIENT NOD.]

"So, eh, I don't understand, Lord. I never
heard about this part. When did this happen?"

"When you weren't looking, child."

"Yeah, I guess so. But, I really don't agree with this, Lord.
It's not fair."

"So."

"Well, it's just not! I think we should take this part out."

"Who says."

"Well, I do, Lord. I DO."

[NOD.]

"I see. And, Who wrote this, My precious?"

"Well, eh, You know.....eh, You did, Lord.
I guess."

"Excuse Me, child?"

"Yeah. Like, yeah. I guess, I'm sure."

"Well said, child."

"But, You know, Lord; I still think.........."

"What, beloved."

"Well, You know, Lord; we just don't live
in a perfect world, is all."

"This is true, child."

"So, how are we supposed to BE perfect? Huh?
How are we all supposed to get around all THAT?
WELL? HUH?"

"Child, am I going to have to TEACH you to
be more reverent?"

"Eh, no, Lord. I mean, Father."

[SILENCE.]

"Eh. NO! Of course, not! I mean,
nosiree, Lord. Not one bit."
(Silence.)
Nope. Not me, Lord. You can always
count on moi to be reverent, Lord.
You can count on it, Lord: like the sunset over
the Texas sky. I'm reverence, itself."

[NOD.]
"I'm very glad of that, child.
Perhaps, you need to read the Book of Jonah,
again.
[SILENCE.]
And, again."

"Oy vey.
(Gulp.)
I will, Lord.
I promise."

"Good, child. Now, what was it you
wished to discuss?"

"Hey, nothing at all, Lord. I was
just wishing You a good night, is all."

"Good night, child."

(Silence.)

[SILENCE.]

"I don't see My Word opened to
Jonah, child."

"You mean, right NOW, Lord?
But, I haven't finished complaining
about this other part, first."

[THUNDER.]

I am a Hebrew;
and I fear the Lord,

And the Lord appointed a great fish
to swallow up Jonah;
and Jonah was in the belly of the fish

Then Jonah prayed to the Lord
