Matthew 27:32:
And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.

To Carry His Cross

As the condemned approached
And the crowds gathered ‘round
The man called Messiah
Fell to the ground

With hate in his eyes
A guard struck His back
"Get up now", he sneered
"Or you’ll feel my whip’s crack!"

But try as He might
The weight would not budge
And He fell on His face
In the dirt and the sludge

Then a man from the crowd
said, "Sir, if You will"
"They’ve told me to carry"
"your cross up the hill"

And as blood stained his clothes
And Christ walked by his side
He took Jesus’ bourdon
And himself he denied

What a tender expression
Of the love our Lord showed
To walk by the savior
And carry His load

But now Jesus has risen
And He walks with us still
He carries our burden
As we walk up that hill

The plan comes full circle
As our burden He bares
He is strength in our weakness
And our suffering He shares

What a wondrous privilege
His cross to have borne
What a glorious promise
Through His death I’m reborn

Matthew, you expressed these truths beautifully through your poem.

Matthew, this was beautiful. I loved the connection you made between the man carrying Christ's cross as they walked to the hill, with the fact that the Lord now carries our burdens as we walk together through life. With love, Deb
