So the Lord sent a pestilence upon Israel.....
[2 Samuel 24:15]
*******************************************
"You're so mean, Lord. How am I supposed to
get close to You?"

[SILENCE.]

"I'm sorry. I'm just be, eh, myself.
I wish You were a little...........uh......
well, not so harsh."

[SILENCE.]

"You ARE harsh, Lord. Your Word is full of
very harsh nouns and adjectives."

[NOD.]

"And, the verbs are harsh, too, Lord. I don't
like them, either."

"You would like life to be easier, child."

"Well, yeah. Of course! Don't the rest
of Your children? Hey,
if anybody's telling You they like all
the bad stuff in their life, they're
just blue-nosing You, Lord."

"What is that, child."

"Eh, I don't know. There's some expression
for it, Lord. What is that that called: butter-balling?
Butter-nosing? Brown-bagging? Butting-browning?"

(SMILE.)

"Well, You know what I mean, Lord. I praise You
for lots of things, Lord. You know that."

[NOD.]

"Like, I always talk about Your clouds, Lord.
And, well.......kitties! What can I say?"

"Yes. My clouds. Your cats."

"Well? They're big things, Lord.
But, I think You're wrong; I don't mind life
being hard. I just think YOU'RE too hard,
particularly in the Word."

"Whose Word, child?"

"Oh. Well, YOUR Word, Lord; about 95% is
just too............too..............."

"Yes, child? I'm waiting."

"I'm writing on this on Notepad, Lord.
Let me bring up Microsoft Officeword; I'll
find something different."

[PATIENT SILENCE.]

"Here You go, Lord: cruel, unkind, unsympathetic,
insensitive, heartless, callous, ruthless............."

"You didn't finish the list, child."

"Uh, the last two were: inconsiderate, and.........."

"And?"

"Eh.......oh, You mean this one? Well, it's uh,
'unforgiving', Lord. Well................these lists
aren't totally accurate, Lord. Microsoft's
always doing updates."

"Ah, yes."

"No, Lord! You ARE forgiving! Really! Hey,
I didn't put that adjective in there, Lord! That's
not what I meant! You know what I mean!"

"Yes, child. I do."

"Oy, maybe I should just delete this, Lord.
My foot's so big; I don't think it'd fit in my
whole mouth, anyway."

(SMILE.)

"So, back to my original thought, Lord........"

"And, what was that, child?"

"Uh. Oh, yeah. About all of Your grim parts:
they're not very nice, Lord. Yet, Christians
say we should try to be close to You."

[NOD.]

"So, how do I do that, Lord? I just don't see
it."

"Read My Word, child."

"Okay, here's something, Lord:

I am the Door. If anyone enters by Me,
he will be saved, and will go in and out,
and find pasture."
[John 10:9]

[SILENCE.]

"I guess that Jesus is the way, Lord.
Maybe, He is the way that I can be close to You,
and still survive."

[SILENCE.]

"I will continue to seek Him, Lord, in spite
of all my Jewishness."

(SMILE.)

"And, I do love You, Father.
(Silence.)
Though, I still think Your Word needs some
sensitivity training."

"I love you, too, daughter.
I love you, too."
******************************************
When the angel stretched forth his hand toward
Jerusalem to destroy it,
the Lord repented of the evil,
and said to the angel who was working destruction
among the people,
It is enough; now stay your hand.
[2 Samuel 24:16]
