I call you by your name......
[Isaiah 45:4]
**************************
"Lord?"

"Yes, child?"

"Don't call me that, Lord."

"Why, child."

"Cuz' the folks who read my dialogues
think You should be calling me something
besides 'child' or 'daughter'."

"Yes, I see."

"Well, I don't really care, Lord. No. Well,
You know what I mean; I care, but it's
not really a big deal....."

"It is, My beloved."

"They don't like that, either, Lord.
Perhaps, You should call me something else."

"No."

"Huh? What was that.......?
Anyhow, I don't think my Christian name
would do. Actually, it's my Jewish
name, isn't it?
[Smile.]
That was just an inside joke, Lord."

"Yes, child. I got it."

"Yeah. Well, I can't see You calling me
by my name, Lord. It's just too.....human."

[SILENCE.]
"Read My Word, child."

"Why, Lord? Is my name in there?
Yeah, sure. I'll look: nope, I can't find it, Lord.
But, I see what You've called other people:

Simon, son of John, do you love Me.....
[John 21: 15]

That part is very beautiful, Lord."

[SILENCE.]

"Okay. Well, maybe You can call me something
like that. How about 'daughter of E.'"?

"No, child."

"Why not? Elaine was my mother's name;
and everybody that knew her, called her 'E'."

"I know."

"Alright; maybe, it's not reverent enough.
Okay; what, then? Don't we have to agree on this?"

"No."

"Oy, vey."

"Well said, child."

"You know Lord, You're not very democratic.
In fact, I think You're kind of bossy."

[NOD.]

(Sigh.)
"Alright, alright! Just call me whatever You want!"

"I shall, child."

"What should I do now, Lord?"

"Read My Word, child.
Read My Word."
**************************************
What they had finished breakfast,
Jesus said to Simon Peter,
Simon, son of John,
do you love Me more than these?
(Peter) said to Him,
Yes, Lord. You know that I love You.
He said to (Peter):
Feed My lambs.
[John 21: 15]
