"Lord, why did You make wisdom teeth?"

"I did not call them wise, child."

"I know; I just looked them up on line.
They were called that cuz' they're the
last teeth to come in, about age 18.
And, according to whomever, age 17-25
is called the age of wisdom."

"Ah, yes."

"Pooey, Lord!"

"Child, to Whom are you speaking?"

"You didn't let me finish, Lord!"

"I know, child."

"No, Lord. I wasn't saying 'pooey' to You!
I meant 'pooey' to that bit about 18 being
called the age of wisdom."

[NOD.]

"That's just a bunch of hogwash, is all."

"Why, child."

"Please! I didn't even begin to get any
wisdom until....what: the age of 48?"

"Every one of My children is different,
precious."

"What's THAT supposed to mean? Huh?"

"Child, to Whom are you speaking?"

"The God Who sent the plague of
frogs to Egypt?"

[NOD.]

"Anyway; so why DID You make
us have wisdom teeth, Lord?
What did folks do before dentists?"

"Many did not live to have such teeth, child."

"Yeah, that's true. So, I guess we're
supposed to be grateful?"

"YES."

"I still don't understand, Lord.
Almost everybody's got 'to get them out;
so, why did You make them in the
first place?"

"Think, child."

"Oy, Lord; that's something I don't
really like to do. Let's see;
in the dinosaur days.......before
dentists, that is.............
if somebody lost a bunch of their
teeth before 18, they'd still survive?"

[NOD.]

"Oh, I see. It's kind of like the
appendix; we don't need it, anymore.
Doesn't that have to do with evolution, Lord?"

[ SILENCE. RUMBLE.]

"Oops. That's right, Lord. You don't
believe in evolution. I forgot."

"Oy vey es mir."

"I agree, Lord. The only thing I
liked about Darwin was his discovery
of those really big turtles. What was
that place called, again: the Palapagos?
No, that wasn't it, Lord."

[PATIENT SILENCE.]

"GALAPAGOS! THAT'S IT!"

[NOD.]

"Lord, I hope You didn't get too mad
at Darwin; he was just being a scientist."

"I am not mad, child."

"Well, anyhow; Your wisdom teeth still
have a great purpose, Lord. Dentists
have to get their money from somewhere, huh?"

[SMILE.]

"Yeah, I know. I'm way too cynical, Lord.
Actually, I think I'm getting softer with age.
What do You think?"

"Read My Word, child."

"Why, Lord? Are there cynical folks in
the Bible, Lord? Neah. I really think that's
a modern thing, Lord."'

"Read My Word, child."

"Okay. Here's something, Lord:

There is nothing new under the sun.
[Ecclesiastes 1:9]

Hey! That's pretty neat, Lord!
I always thought Shakespeare said that,
Lord! Wow! Well, what do You know!"

"A little, child.
A little."
