Christian Living
This past Monday morning, I decided to try something new. Something different. Something that I can say in all honesty, seems to work better than methods attempted in the past.
I have a demanding job, a demanding family, a demanding life. Don't we all? It is what it is.
I have mentioned before that I like to stay in constant communication with God, often keeping a running conversation going all during the day. But when things would come up, I tended to still let them build up and then they all would come flooding out when I arrived back home. This wasn't good, as it left me tense and apprehensive throughout the day. So instead of letting those things build up, I wanted to bring them to God the minute they happened.
Gosh, am I feeling so much calmer!
I have a boss who likes to push my buttons with what I call micro-management at times. He's an excellent boss, I must admit, and for the most part very easy to work with. But he gets in these moods sometimes where he'll just stand over my shoulder, directing traffic, so to speak, even though I have been doing this job for almost three years. It can drive me nuts if I let it. I'm not letting it anymore. When I feel myself getting irritated, I say, "Lord, I'm getting irritated. Please help". And what do you know? HE DOES! EVERY TIME! I am even able to look at my boss and thank him for his 'help'.
I took my son to school today. There was a young man in the car in front of us who didn't move when the light changed. I said (remember, I'm not saying any of this out loud), "Lord, why isn't that guy moving?" Then I saw that he was on his cell phone. Well, bless his heart, even though he was on the cell phone while operating a moving vehicle, he was being careful. Okay, I know, still not right. But instead of letting it make me angry (I have driving and road issues sometimes), I was able to wait patiently for him to creep on down the road so I could too.
This applies to so many situations. It works. Don't let all that ugly stuff accumulate. Deal with it as it comes up, keep your lines of communication with God open and operating all the time, and I promise, you will be amazed at the results. The situations won't change, in all likelihood, but your reactions to them certainly will.
Let me know, if you would be so kind, if you try this, how it works out for you. 'Cause I'm feeling so much better--so much stronger--so much better able to handle those irritants now.
It's easy to set aside a specific time for prayer and communication (okay, maybe not) but you don't have to have a specific time for this--just do it all day long. We have a Father who goes with us everywhere, one who is with us at all times, as close as a breath, as near as a heartbeat, one who knows what we're thinking and can hear us the moment we call His name. Whether we speak aloud or not. He's right there for us as we go about our lives--He's not 'up there' in the sky somewhere. What a great thing, what a great gift, we have.
God bless!
