He lay down and slept
under a broom tree, and
Behold, an angel touched him,
and said to him,
'Arise and eat.'
And he looked.....at his head
a cake baked on hot stones.....and a jar of water.
.....the angel of the Lord came again..
and touched him.....
[1 Kings 19:5-8]

"Lord?"

"Yes, child. Shouldn't you be asleep?"

"Yeah, I know. But, I was feeling kinda'
low, so I wanted to write."

"I see."

"So, how come You don't send us
angels, anymore, with hotcakes and
iced tea?"

"Iced tea, My beloved?"

"Well, in this Scripture, the angel's
giving Elijah a jar of water, but
if Elijah had been down here,
in San Antonio, he would have
been giving him a jug of iced tea."

"Ah, yes."

"What's with this part, Lord:

And there he [Elijah] came to a cave,
and lodged there;
and behold, the word of the Lord came to him,
and He said to him,
'What are you doing here, Elijah?'

Were You being a little humorous with him, Lord?"

"Why, child."

"Cuz'. It just sounds kind'a funny to me.
I mean, You knew what Elijah was doing there."

"Yes, child."

"So anyhow, did Your angel bake those hot cakes
for Elijah? It says here that Elijah lived on those
cakes for 40 days and nights; wow, that stuff must
have had a bunch of calories, Lord."

[AMUSED SILENCE.]

"How come You don't send any angels down to
ME with hotcakes?"

"Have faith, child."

"Well I'll try, Lord. But......."

"Go to bed, child."

"I will, Lord. I just don't understand...."

"You cannot, child; not tonight."

"Okay, Lord. I'll go to sleep."

[SILENCE.]

"Lord?"

"Yes, child?"

"Can angel Gabriel bring me some pancakes,
tomorrow morning? I really like them smothered
in strawberries, and hot syrup. He could also
sprinkle some cinnamon on top, if he wants to."

"Good night, precious daughter."

"Water's never been that tasty to me, Lord.
And, I like coffee, but it doesn't like me;
maybe, Gabriel could also have a pitcher
of fresh squeezed orange juice."

"Good night, child."

"'Night, Lord."
