(SILENCE.)

"LORD? LORD?
LORD!! LORD!"

"WHAT."

"Lord, I'm not hearing that still,
small voice at all. Where is it?"

(SILENCE.)
(MORE SILENCE.)

"LORD! LORD!
WHA' D'JA DO: FALL
ASLEEP UP THERE?"

"NO."

"Well, TELL ME! WHAT SHOULD I DO???
YOU'RE NOT BEING VERY RESPONSIVE
TO ME! HOW COME EVERY OTHER CHRISTIAN
HEARS EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE SAYING.....
BUT, WITH ME......IT'S BUPKIS?"

"I am not Bupkis, precious."

"Yeah I know, Lord! But......."

"But WHAT."

"LORD! Why does everything have to be
so complicated.....and
difficult, with ME?"

"Because you make it so, child.
Listen to Me, when I speak to you."

"But, I DO, LORD!! I DO!!
You know, just because........"

"Child, you need to be quiet.
Then, you will hear My Voice."

"Well, how come Your Voice has to be
so still and quiet? Huh, Lord? HUH?"

"Cuz'."

(Disgruntled silence.)

"Cuz' I said so."

"But, Lord! LORD! WHAT?
WHAT? I can't HEAR YOU.......!!
(More disgruntled silence.)

Lord, how am I supposed to make these
important decisions.........
if I can't.......HEAR......YOU.......?"

"I speak to you, child, through
your heart. My Voice is still and
small within you......"

"BUT, I CAN'T HEAR IT, LORD!!
I CAN'T! I CAN'T!"

"Remember sweet child, Your Lord's
Voice may be still and small.
(SILENCE.)
But, HE is not."

"Oh. Yeah, well, I mean......yeah."

"Well said, child."

"But, seriously, Lord, what's a person
to do, if they can't hear You, AT ALL??
Huh? HUH? HUH!!"

"One must learn to be quiet, child:
to be quiet, and obey."

"Quiet? Yeah, Lord. But, You're
talkin' to ME. I'm not the quiet
sort: I'm a talkative, Yiddisha lady."

"Oy, vey."

"Well Lord, You know ME!
My culture's full of folks who
like to talk over each other.
We don't think it's rude, at all,
to have everybody talkin' at the same time.
It's just natural ........."

"I know, child.
But, I am your Lord.
You must be quiet, and
listen. Listen, child.
Be still. Listen, and
obey."

(Silence.)
(More impatient silence.)

"WHAT? WHAT, LORD?
WHA' D'JA SAY??
HUH?"

"Read My Word, dear child."

"This part?
(Silence.)
LORD? YOU MEAN, THIS PART?
HUH?"

(PATIENT SILENCE.)

"Oh. Okay, Lord. Here it is:

Be still. And, know that I am God.
[Psalm 46:10]

"Okay, Lord. I'll try. But......"

"Be still, child.
And listen.
I am your Lord.
And, I love you,
very deeply."

And, behold,
the Lord passed by,
and a great and strong wind rent the mountains,
and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord,
but the Lord was not in the wind;
and after the wind an earthquake,
but the Lord was not in the earthquake;
and after the earthquake a fire,
but the Lord was not in the fire;
and after the fire a still small Voice.
