A Grand Old Flag

“Old Glory” blows with the breeze
Its fabric in rippled display
Brilliant colors of red, white and blue
Contrast against clouds of gray

High above on mountain tops
And from sea to shining sea
“Old Glory” is a symbol of freedom
In this land of sweet liberty

Flown from vessels in battle
And carried with fife and drum
It was tattered and torn in conflict
But “Glory” never turned to run

Olympians proudly display the flag
In honor of where they’re from
Sadly, “Old Glory” was also burned
As “freedom of speech” by some

It was carried by the Cavalry
From atop a mighty steed
And now it is planted on the moon
A symbol of strength indeed

Flown on top of mighty towers
That fateful day it would fall
As was done on Iwo Jima
“Old Glory” was raised for all

For though she has her struggles
She maintains strength and pride
“Old Glory” will not stay down
For her liberty she will not hide

Fly this sweet flag above us all
As a banner for all to see
That we will always take a stand
Against oppression and tyranny

Our fore-fathers carried it to Yorktown
Now our children to the desert in Iraq
I love “Old Glory’s” history
And the soldiers who carry her back

Battle weary she’s tried and true
But always ready to stand once more
Never too tired to blow in the wind
As freedom’s display from shore to shore
