Loose Him

And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go. John 11:43,44 (KJV)

When Jesus cried out, "Lazarus, come forth", all claims on Lazarus' body and spirit and soul were overrided. The spirit and soul of Lazarus were already the Lord's because we ascertain that Lazarus was a believer in Jesus Christ as were his sisters, Mary and Martha. But death had exerted what power it had over Lazarus, closing his eyes, stilling his heart and cutting him off, for a time, from those he loved.
When the voice of the Almighty beckoned Lazarus, the body had no alternative but to rise and come. Even though the instruction to "loose him and let him go" was directed to those present, death also received the same command. Jesus looked into that rotting abyss of death and commanded "loose him and let him go" and so death resigned any hold it had and cowered meekly before the Lord of Life. "O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory"? (I Corinthians 15:55) There is no victory for death because of the Victor over death.
