I Will See You Again

And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you. John 16:22
Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11 (KJV)

"I will see you again" If, when we part company with a loved one,we are assured of a reunion, then some of the ache of separation is soothed. The disciples were experiencing sorrow as the Lord Jesus prepares them for his death, resurrection and eventual return to heaven. On earth we can never state with certainty that we will meet again. Many unforeseen occurrences could hinder and even prevent that reunion but when the Lord Jesus said, "I will see you again", it was fact; unchangeable, undeniable and certain fact.
He was saying that after the resurrection, he would see them again. How wise of him to be in their presence for forty days after the horror of the cross, his death and their sorrow. The joy that filled their hearts in seeing him was such that "no man could take it from them". It transcended any of earth's attempts to squelch it. That same joy is ours as we consciously spend time in his presence and that joy is only a prelude to the fullness of joy which will be ours when we are in his presence for all eternity in uninterrupted fellowship.
