My Safe Place

You could have made a quick, miraculous work of mending the splintered fragments that were left of my heart. You’re that good! Instead, You chose to take Your time tending to my wounds, (in Your infinite wisdom) knowing how fragile the pieces were. Though You’re nowhere near finished with me, it’s reassuring to find that I’ve moved on from simply surviving from breath to rasping breath, to actually living day by day.

Instead of strengthening the walls I chose to build up for myself, You assured me that You are my Fortress, my Safe Place. Now, You gradually chip away at the walls I built up, taking them down, grain of sand in each brick at a time. They are so very near to being gone. I stand utterly amazed that this shattered heart was for my good, that the tearing down is to build Yourself up in me. But after all, You intend all things for my good and for Your glory.

I don’t tell You often enough just how thankful I truly am. There is no one like You! If there was nothing more to living in You except the cost of that precious blood, shed readily for me, it would be enough. But there’s so much more... so, so much more. Love -- I think I might finally know just what that is...

... another fragmented grain gently, yet assuredly crumbles away.
