Deuteronomy 28:3-6
Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.
Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and thy flocks and thy sheep.
Blessed shall thou be in thy basket and thy store
Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.

There is a song I grew up singing in church:
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God hath done!
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.


A funny thing happened the other night. I had allowed myself to be beat down with thoughts of self-pity! When I went to bed, my mind was racing with thoughts that were depressing and I was quickly spiraling into a funk.

Counting sheep never seemed to work for me, so I decided to combat the depressing selfish thoughts with counting my blessings.

First I began to hum the familiar song, and then out loud, I began speaking every blessing in my life, from the smallest to the biggest.

It was amazing, how after just a few minutes I began to feel lighter, the depression and heavy thoughts were being pushed back by the acknowledgment of the many blessings that has happened in my life.

I don't know how long I did this, but eventually I drifted off to sleep and slept better than I had in many nights. I woke the next morning with a song on my lips and a little dance in my feet.

Counting my blessings worked much better than counting sheep ever could!

So the next time when the enemy comes in with heavy thoughts - try counting your blessings and see what happens.

Lord, we are so blessed! We take it for granted so often! Please forgive us! Help us Lord to think of our many blessings before thinking of what we might be missing out on! Help us to see Your mighty work in our life, rather than what we don't have. Help us Lord to acknowledge you in everything we say and do! Truly we are Blessed!
