WHY AM I STUMBLING?

I stumble through this new stage
Letting you go
Your wings had been clipped for so long
Now freely you fly
And here I am wondering why
Why am I stumbling?

I know all the little stages you must endure
Are for your growth
I see something in your eyes
When I look at you and I feel a longing
To reach out and fix it all
And here I am wondering why
Why am I stumbling?

I birthed and nourished you
Little dove
To let you go in the big vast world
The door has been opened
And you freely fly
And here I am wondering
Why am I stumbling?

This was the plan from the beginning
For you to be healthy and independent
Yet there is something in my heart
That longs to bring you back in
If just for a minute
And here I am wondering
Why am I stumbling?

I tell myself this stage will pass
I will watch you continue to grow
I will watch you flourish
I will see prayers answered
I will see you become the young lady God intended you to be
I will see promises unfold

I think the stumbling is no more than a natural occurrence
When your baby leaves home in a healthy way.
We’ve stumbled through your life
You the first-born
Me the new mom

So many fragile moments
So many shattered hopes
Yet here we are
I must allow you to fly
I must allow you to grow
And as I stumble through this stage
Thanks for understanding
It seems a natural process with you and I
I have no intention of clipping your wings
Fly baby dove, fly!

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6
